I enjoyed your post. My girls love the treat and are enjoying teaching kids what they have learned from your wife as well. The addition of your family to ours is a great one!

Thanks for giving some of us permission for this lifestyle! I have been feeling that God's call is not for me to stay in the same profession my whole life, but to live sacrificially for Him, however He chooses. My colleague's in academia think I am nuts. But there is so much more freedom living this way! I really believe it has made me much less attached to my gadgets and "stuff" and much more attached to Jesus.

I am humbled by the challenge to our prayer life in the phrase, "give me just one." When we feel victimized or neglected by the world, we usually pray to God and ask to be filled with personally blessings. But if we flip-flop this phrase and see it in terms of God's mission, we would more frequently pray as did this missionary. Instead of praying that God would bestow more blessings upon us, we would pray that God would bestow more blessings and glory upon himself by redeeming one more of his children. We are merely asking God to put us in the path that He uses to glorify himself.

What a great analogy Richard. So often we place our focus on our circumstances. Thank you for the great reminder, and for all that you and The Mission Society do for the Kingdom.

It seems to me that being in mission wherever the Lord sends you is one of the most joyous things in life! Sure there are hard parts. Sure you sometimes wonder why He wants you in a certain place. But overall, the joy overshadows the pain. When in mission, we saw many young Americans touring around the world, seemingly without purpose, but apparently searching for something to fill their lives. How much better if we could reach those people--as well as older people who fear to answer God's call--to see they could find their true purpose in life by answering that call. At 86, with a husband with Alzheimers disease, it's obvious that I can no longer go on the field, hence the reason for my new calling--writing about our mission work in hopes of showing these people that their true joy can be found in responding to His call. The first book of a trilogy on this subject--"Go If You Must--even if you aren't perfect"--has just been published. I pray that it will help to accomplish this hope.
